12/3/2023 0 Comments Superliminal length![]() I suspected that the choral sections might be ‘virtual’, like on “ Der Schmetterling 153“.Ī few times we hear male spoken voices as on the opening track, “ Retro Causality“: “The fact that I am speaking to you now proves that I am not just theoretical./Using your technology to capture me doesn’t really help because I am interdimensional and faster than myself!” The voices are often fairly gentle female vocals, and a few times harmonies were introduced. And a lot of synths!Īlthough lyrics bear weight, they are interwoven in the elaborate tapestry of the music. Overall musicianship is superb, from woodwinds to strings to reed instruments, to bass guitars and keyboards. I would have liked to hear Ivan stretch out a bit compositionally, but it’s a small part of the whole experience. Lead instruments take up a melody, only to have it traded to another and then to another, and then back again. ![]() Often a fairly simple chord sequence is introduced many times by synths, then elaborated by guitars, or sax, or flute, or violin, accompanied by solid, sensitive, and complex drumming. Here we have synth- and electronica-heavy, symphonic progressive rock, jazzy, atmospheric, psychedelia-laden, sometimes frenetic progressive music. I think these terms help to grasp the overarching ideas musically and lyrically presented here. Ivan has this to say about the album: “ The Album is a concept album about time travel in dreams and paranormal mysteries of sleep paralysis. ![]() I’ll admit, though, that the nature of this music and the conceptions behind it lend to the mystery. I am PRETTY SURE there is such a person I’ve had some communications back and forth, and there are a few photos floating around of him. Composer/keyboardist/synth-programmer mystery-man Ivan Vojnic/Vojnits has assembled a talented cast of musicians to help bring to life “ Tachyon at Superluminal” under the rubric PATTERN 153. ![]()
